It’s been put together by the creators of “Build A Niche Store” (which many of you will probably know as BANS) and is built off the back of their 4 1/2 years spent making money in this way and their 2+ years spent helping over 10,000 people do the same through the development of the BANS platform.

Effortlessly Add A Google Map To Any Page

2009 May 4

You’ve probably gone onto various websites, checked out the contact details page and found a Google Map there.  They’re pretty damn nifty but if you have a look at Google’s instruction section they’re pretty damn complicated to set up.  if you just design websites either for yourself or others you probably don’t want to spend the time trying to learn their API, especially when you just want to add the map now, not later.

Well, all is not lost.  Those good people over at WebAssist have a nifty little extension for DreamWeaver called Pro Maps for Google and it does what it says on the tin… Within DreamWeaver you just run the Pro Maps for Google wizard then just input the address, decide upon the marker ( a flag, a push-pin, a house etc) decide whether you want to have driving directions to the destination (which makes it perfect if you’re say showing a map of an event away from the regular base).  Once you’ve done that, decide how big a map you want, and you’re done!

The plug-in will take care of all the coding, you just upload it to your site and that’s it. Professional maps like the big players, no mess, no fuss!

Just check out these features and see for yourself just how feature packed the Pro Maps for Google DreamWeaver extension from WebAssist is:

Making it as a Freelancer

2009 March 2
by Administrator

The move from working for someone else to working for yourself can be quite daunting.  Not only are you busying yourself securing clients and work, usually from known sources who are familiar with your work, you have to somehow canvas work from new sources who won’t be familiar with your reputation.

You’ll have to answer questions such as:

  • How much do I charge? By the hour or by the job?
  • Do I sell myself as a specialist or a generalist?
  • Should I keep my day job and freelance on the side?
  • What is my brand?
  • Contracts and Terms and Conditions

The more you start looking at it, the faster your head will spin and unlike a regular job, it’s probably unlikely you’ll be fortunate enough to have a pool of freelancing friends whose brains you can pick, so what does that leave? Hours of online searching in the library or Google? Hmm…suddenly that crap 9-5 job doesn’t sound so bad does it?

Fear not! If you haven’t already found them, visit Rockable Press who have some must read books available, most are in PDF format so you don’t even have to wait for the postman.

Their How to be a Rockstar Freelancer title is a must read which packs in everything you need to know in one handy volume and if you are a web designer you should also read their Rockstar WordPress Designer book which will open your eyes to this open source CMS that people forget is much more than a bloggers tool.
